Deer Run Golf Course
- June 2008 Merchant of the Month
by Renee Lee
At Deer Run, it is
their mission to “provide golfers with an environment that offers the
highest quality of member services, and a relaxing and enjoyable golf
experience.” You may read about the many attributes of Deer Run online
at their website
playdeerrun@yahoo.com to see everything they have to offer.
I took this next
paragraph right off of their website as I could not have described the
golf course any better myself.
“Nestled in the
gentle slopes of Western Illinois, surrounded by mature trees with the
mighty Mississippi River in the distance, lies Deer Run Golf Course. The
course affords even the most avid golfer the opportunity to play a
one-of-a-kind championship course. Still, it allows the novice the
chance to develop skills among a panoramic natural landscape. Deer Run’s
vistas of breathtaking sunsets, and abundant wildlife portrayed in this
area is truly a setting made for golf.” What a beautiful description of
this truly remarkable area of our community!
The Deer Run Golf
Course, is located at #1 Deer Run Drive in Hamilton, Illinois, and
initially opened its 9-hole golf course in 1972. In 1984, a full 18-hole
golf course was completed for those “golfers” who love the sport and
those who just love to watch. The course is open year-round, but the
golf “season” runs from March to November. During early spring and late
fall, the hours of operation begin at 8:00 a.m. and you may enjoy your
time on the course until dusk. During the summer, however, the course
opens at 7:00 a.m. also ending at dusk.
Four clubhouse
employees, eight buildings/grounds workers, and the many members who
volunteer their time and labor make keep this business running smoothly
and looking its very best. Paul Deyo, a two-year employee of Deer Run,
recently took over as Manager this year. Pat and Kortney are new this
year and all are looking forward to your visit and to serve your every
need while at Deer Run. Todd Lewis is the proud superintendent of
grounds and has been with the club for eight years now.
You may call for a
tee time at 217-847-3623. Paul went into some detail for me explaining
some of what Deer Run has to offer. “The course is open to the public.
Outings for groups and businesses may be scheduled. Tournaments are
advertised and guests invited to participate. Golf carts are available
for rental and members of the course may rent stalls for private carts.
Food and beverages are available to golfers and guests. Special rates
are offered during the week and leagues are also played during the week.
The course also offers special “stay & golf” packages during spring and
fall months. These packages include hotel accommodations and days of
golf at remarkably affordable prices!”
Special “Snowbird”
packages include 3 days of UNLIMITED golf, golf cart, and 2 nights
lodging per person double. Larger packages are available at the same
rate. Price excludes hotel or motel tax. If you would like to complete a
reservation form for your golf vacation or need driving directions you
can do this on their website listed above or at
proshop@playdeerrun.com.
Prices and types of
membership levels vary including: Single, couples,, junior, college,
family, and corporate rates. Prices also vary depending on cart rental
and use of the driving range. Memberships run from January 1st
through December
31st
As listed on the
website, “Deer Run Golf Course offers a competitive schedule of events”
for resident golfers who join a league. Scheduled play through the
summer season can also be found online. Golfwits.com will take you to an
interactive site where you can see the maps of each of the course’s 18
holes.
This description was
also taken from their website, “Deer Run is a championship golf course
with five ponds and a winding, spring-fed stream coming into play on
several holes. Tees, fairways, and greens are watered directly from the
Mississippi River to keep turf lush in the summer months. Hundreds of
mature trees and sand traps make play a challenge. The course was built
on rolling terrain and has gently undulating greens that are challenging
but fair.”
I asked Paul what
he, the committee members, and employees enjoy when they are not working
and not surprisingly he replied, “Golfing is a common denominator among
staff members. We all enjoy being on the course as much as those who
visit us!”
In closing, I asked
Paul what he enjoyed most about living and working in Hamilton, he
expressed, “Hamilton is a friendly, accommodating community. Even after
a bad putt on the 18th green, people are pleasant and
affable. People really care about other people here.”
Please help me shout
a big thank you to everyone who makes Deer Run Golf Course a beautiful
place to visit and play! Hamilton is proud to have your friendly staff
and services available in our community!
Please stop by and
congratulate Paul, the members, and staff at Deer Run Golf Course, our
June 2008 Merchant of the Month!
