Montebello
Access Area Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On Saturday,
February 23, 2008, the city of Hamilton held a ribbon-cutting
ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Montebello Access Area.
This area has been closed to traffic and visitors during the winter
months for the past 17 years to allow undisturbed roosting for the
eagles. Now that the eagle population has recovered from near
extinction, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is once
again allowing access to this area during the winter months.
Local officials
were present to celebrate this event and Larry Cooper of Hamilton
was given an award in appreciation of his voluntary service in
keeping this area free of debris. |
